There are five things to be cautious of and consider if you want to alleviate and eliminate the effects of depression. I know how it feels; I’ve been through it, and it can negatively impact our lives more than most people realize.
What I noticed and realized about most depressed people is that they either don’t know or don’t care, in other words, they lack the discipline to do the right things to stop, prevent, or eliminate depression. These people repeat the same actions and mistakes and wonder why they are in the same situation.
I understand that it is difficult and that everything appears and feels more difficult when you are depressed, but small steps and smart action can work wonders and change the way we think about depression, significantly improving our mental health and lives.
In this blog, I will discuss some important aspects that we need to understand and improve to combat and heal depression and regain our lives and vitality.”
1- Improve Your Nutrition (you don’t know how to eat)
First, it’s important to understand the significance of a well-balanced diet and making wise food choices. In my philosophy, I believe that each person’s body is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. It’s crucial to listen to your body and understand how it responds to different foods.
I always emphasize the connection between nutrition, diet, and mental health. Your daily diet and what you consume can significantly influence your thoughts and mental well-being.
Certain unhealthy foods and digestion problems can lead to negative emotions like anger and worry. The link between the gut and the brain is often underestimated, and I’ve conducted numerous experiments on this concept.
When it comes to people who are unwell, depressed, or struggling with weight management, I often say, ‘You don’t know how to eat.’ It’s a phrase that many only truly understand after gaining experience with diet and nutrition.
Remember to eat a variety of nutritious foods. Some people might be tempted to skip healthy options like broccoli and fruits due to laziness. However, even small mistakes and neglect can have a cumulative negative impact on health, mental well-being, and overall success in life.
One of my favorite sayings is that everything is energy and everything is connected. One thought, one action, and one food can all impact the chemistry and harmony of your body, mind, and soul.
Let’s remember the importance of nutrition and how making healthier food choices and avoiding harmful foods can improve our overall well-being.”
2- Remember the importance, value and benefits of sleep
How you sleep also has an impact on your life, mental health, and energy levels. Understanding why we sleep is crucial. Sleep deprivation can negatively impact your mood, energy levels, digestion, and immune system. It is the single most important factor impacting our entire lives.
For example, if I do not get enough sleep, I am unable to function normally, think clearly, or digest effectively. Many people are like this. If you are sensitive, you will notice the symptoms easily.
I see and meet people who sleep late and wake up late; they’ve been doing this their entire lives. However, many people are still unaware of the significant impact this has on their mental health.
Or people who constantly have interrupted sleep, which reduces their vitality, energy, and overall well-being. I recommend establishing a good sleep routine by going to bed and waking up earlier.
I know it can be challenging, but taking small steps and using your willpower can help improve the quality of your sleep. Start by prioritizing your health and future self, and have confidence in your ability to make positive changes.
Try turning off the lights earlier and reading a book instead of watching television. After two or three weeks of following these smart rules and establishing a good sleep routine, some people may gain a deeper understanding of the benefits of better sleep and how it can help them avoid negative thoughts and lack of energy.
What I mean is that most of you will notice the real and long-term benefits after a certain period of time.”
3- Repurpose your life
“When life doesn’t go according to plan, rethink, learn from mistakes and obstacles, redirect your focus and vision to create a better plan with smart goals and a definitive purpose.”
Matt M. Eccles
Discover new interests and hobbies that will give you energy and joy. Travel or live in a different location. Setting attainable goals and developing a sense of purpose is one way to begin a new and better life.
“Change things if you want to see change.”
Matt M. Eccles
Some people never change or try new things, and they wonder why they or things remain the same. I mean, if you improve yourself, your thoughts, your character, and your value, everything else will improve as well.
Some people experience these consciously, while others do so subconsciously. But it has to happen if you want to see positive change to improve your mental health and life.
4- 1 Stone 3 birds philosophy (fresh air, exercise, sun)
Fresh air and sunlight, along with regular exercise, can improve your health and contribute to a more balanced life. It’s important to maintain a balanced approach to physical activity and spend as much time as possible outdoors, enjoying nature, fresh air, and sunlight.
For instance, practicing yoga or doing stretching exercises at the beach or park on a sunny day can provide numerous benefits compared to remaining indoors and being inactive for long periods.
I conducted an experiment involving several people, and the results and differences were remarkable. Once you have experienced and experimented with this yourself, you will be more inclined to take actions that are beneficial to your well-being.
5- Goal, Purpose, Faith
Remembering that you have things to be grateful for in life is just as important as eating well and exercising. Even in the darkest moments, maintaining a positive outlook on life can greatly benefit your mental health.
Setting realistic goals, finding purpose and meaning, and understanding the role of faith and spirituality in combating depression are all essential. All of these steps will help you do so.
Another example of the phrase “everything is connected.” Do what you enjoy, value, and desire to be healthy and happy. Begin your mornings with positivity by listening to good people saying good things. This will prevent negative thoughts and shift your mood to positive.
